Lloret de Mar Swimming PoolLloret de Mar;  the main tourist attraction town of Girona and the second in Catalonia , offers a great boost to the town and the province, by introducing the first Olympic swimming pool in the area, thereby improving its range of sports facilities.

The project will be completed in three phases due to the high cost, but the first phase has already begun and could become a reality in March 2012 when it may be already in use.

The first phase was estimated at 9.5 million euros but finally went to tender for 12.7 million.  Phase one will include the pool with tiered seating for 580 people, changing rooms, cafeteria and a 290 m² fitness centre fitness. The company undertaking the work is  OHL JV & Aggregates Vilanna SL. The other phases of the work will include a children’s water zone, a beauty treatment centre and a rowing room.

Other than being a new attraction to tourists, especially sports tourists; the swimming pool answers a quarter-century long demand by the villagers themselves, channelled by the Yacht Club Costa Brava: A claim that the mayor, Xavier Crespo, recalled as he laid the first foundation stone on 3rd November.
