The car was passing along the seafront, at a moment when it was raining extremely hard, and when it arrived at the entrance to the port, it didn’t turn round. According to the Mossos (Catalan police) they received the information at 10:30 am, from the local police, but the vehicle had been found in a canal at the end of the seafront in the town.

The Mayor of the area, Salvi Güell, confirmed that the car drove along the seafront about 1 am, in heavy rain, and when it arrived at the port entrance, did not turn round. He said that it was a local resident who informed the police of the presence of the car in the canal, and stated that the car had French number plates.
