Cinemas Close in Protest at New Law

Posted on 17 February 2010 by admin

A new Catalan law will force cinema owners to show 50% of all films in the Catalan language. On Monday 66% of all cinemas in Catalunya closed in protest.

Only European films with less than 15 copies distributed in Spain will be exempt from the new ruling.

Cinema owners believe this law will result in lower attendances, which they can barely afford in the current economic climate.
